Runniversary Giveaway
August marks my two-year Runniversary! I have come so far in such a short period of time. It’s amazing to think that I started running because one day I was bored - I hit the pavement, ran six miles with an awesome group of girls, and have never stopped since! Who knew that turning the dirty Thirty could be more just a number? It’s a milestone really! My milestone.
In high school, while I danced and participated in gymnastics, I was never that girl who was very athletic. I was ALWAYS chosen last for team sports. It never failed. Well look at me now, suckas! Race you!
Okay, so I might still be coming off that runner’s high from my run earlier today, but still I am excited! When I first ran those six miles, I thought, “I will only stick to running 5 and 10k’s. Long distance is not for me”. And then a friend bought me an entry to my first half marathon for my birthday and there went that pledge! I was hooked. Never mind the fact that my weakness is long distance running, I still love it! I ran my first marathon a year later and I am soon to run my 2nd - Only eight months after my 1st. Craziness!
To celebrate my two year Runniversary (I think I just like saying Runniversary. Runniversary…Runniversary…Okay I am done), I put together a gift basket full of my favorite running snacks and fuel plus a few bonus items that I want to share with one of you!

I first started running for myself when I was in my teens. My first organized run was in my 20's (5K). I have run on and off for the last 10-15 years, but never in a "race". Last year I sprained my ankle and didn't run. This year I have participated in no less than 6 organized runs, the longest of which was 25K (longest organized run ever). Not sure how to pick my Runaversary.

I don't actually know when my runniversary is -- I think I went on my first run as a 7th grader, but I never took it seriously until college Then I stopped running again, and re-took it up seriously a few years ago. To know that people pinpoint a specific day they went on their run is actually a little freaky to me. :) Anyway, I digress. Happy Runniversary!
ReplyDeleteI ran x-country in HS, but didn't really take to it. My 1 year runaversary of actually running and loving it is coming up on August 25th. Whoo!
ReplyDeleteI ran track in school & due to a freak accident in a race, broke my tailbone and fracture my spine and was wheeled up for almost a year, PT for 2 and ended up not running for almost 12 years. One day I decided to try the TM and fell in love with it, next week I went to Central park and almost puked at my first mile but it felt great. Now almost 10 years later, I have run 4 marathons and 12 half's with about 27 races under my belt. I have become a marathon maniac and (just like you) a half fanatic and coach an entire group (all running first's this year). I cannot pick a "runiversary" because I believe (as I run in pain daily) that everyday out there is mine. (Love you on DM)

ReplyDeleteMy runiversary is 8/10. It is also my two year runniversary. I started walking to lose weight and improve health in 2009 completing a 5K walk in July. The Doctor had me on a heart rate restriction that made running impossible. After the 5K he still said no running and sent me to a cardiologist for more tests. On August 7th 2009 the cardiologist said I was ok and should keep on doing what I was doing. I asked if I could run and he said only if I promised to take it really slow. On Monday Aug 10, 2009 I walked out to the street with a Couch to 5K program on the Ipod and began. I thought I was going to die after 60 seconds. I hung in there ran my 5K nine weeks later and on Dec 5, 2010, ran my first marathon to celebrate my 57th birthday. I will never forget my runiversary. I will never forget being double over trying to catch my breath, while praying and I will never forget the decision to keep going.
ReplyDeleteMy Ruuniversary was in June, and it's been 3 years since returning to the sport. I ran track in high school and ran casually afterwards. After having four kids, and a Mom fight for her life from cancer, I decided that I wanted to begin running again. My first race was the San Jose Rock n Roll half marathon in '08. I mostly run halfs, rarely anything else. I'd like to change that this year.

I count my runniversary as September 21, 2008 (which means I'm coming up on three years!) It was the first 5K I did post college (I ran in high school, but not after that). Hard to believe I've been running semi-consistently for almost three years! The half marathon is my favorite distance (I did my first one in October 2009), but right now my knee is being difficult, so I'm focusing on trying to do the short stuff extra speedy.

ReplyDeleteJust found your blog through Aron -- I'll be running HMBIM as well, though I'll be at the back of the pack. My runniversary is November 7. It was the day I ran my first race in 2007.
ReplyDeleteHappy Runniversary! I went for my first "real" run with a friend and classmate in my 4th year in grad school. I was hooked almost immediately. It was the spring of 2001, which I'm just realizing means that I've been running for a little more than 10 years now.

ReplyDeleteI first decided to give running a try in 2002, though I whined a quite a bit and was not inspired by the neighborhood routes. Maybe a year later I discovered trail running at Rancho in Los Altos, and I was hooked. However, my runs were usually only 2-3 miles and I wasn't very consistent. In May 2010 (my runniversary, i suppose!) I officially started training for a marathon (with a couple halfs along the way). Until then, I had never run more than ~4 1/2 miles. Since then, I've been doing organized races practically every month, including 7 halfs, and have registered for 2 more marathons!!
