A Christmas Miracle!

On Sunday, I participated in the 39th Annual Christmas Relays that was held at Lake Merced in San Francisco. Myself, UMM, Paulette and her husband, Kevin were a team competing in the couples category. Our team name was Run n’ Ralph... A fun play on words where Ralphie from the movie “A Christmas Story” was also our mascot. We were just one team out of many that were a part of the Running Addicts group!

I made pins for us to wear with Ralphie as our mascot!

Sporting our new SFM Ambassador shirts w/ cute holiday socks!
I absolutely loved this race for many many reasons and not one includes the actual running part. I ran the 1st leg around the lake which is 4.5 miles. Not even a mile into the run, my sports bra strap came undone which caused my boob to flop around in the wind. I tried to fix it while running, but that didn’t seem to work, so I attempted to ignore the floppy nuisance. I wore a Santa Hat for a festive touch and since it was cold, wore a headband underneath. I made the mistake of pinning the hat and band together and sure enough, they were not staying put on my head. So, needless to say, I was constantly futzing with the top of my head. Oh, and I also had to also use the restroom.
About to cross the finish line. Thankful that you cannot see my floppy boob, but do notice hat issue! ;P
I crossed the finish line laughing at what a crazy run I had just had. UMM was there waiting for me as I told him of all my mishaps. He told me that I should fix myself up as apparently I was quite discombobulated. Not caring, I said “Why. I just need to poo, I will worry about it later.”
He helped me get my hat and hair in place which I thought was odd. Didn’t he hear what I had said? I needed to poop, I didn’t have time for such vanities! UMM then waved down a guy with a camera and asked if he could take some pictures of us. It was then that he turned to me and pulled out of his pocket a perfectly wrapped small box.

And it was that precise moment that I realized what was happening. I got nervous and started shaking. I couldn’t unwrap the box as I had my gloves on. UMM helped me unwrap the box that at this point I could barely see from all the water building up in my eyes. I opened the cardboard box to pull out that oh so familiar hinged ring box. UMM then got down on his injured knee and told me he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me!

I couldn’t believe it! I never thought in a million years I would be the marrying type. In fact, my friends often called me the Samantha from “Sex in the City”, and yet there I was looking down at the man of my dreams, saying yes!!! Everything from that point on was an absolute blur. I remember UMM trying to take the glove off my right hand instead of the left to put the ring on, then me hugging the random runner who had the camera, thanking him for capturing such a wonderful moment. I also remember jumping up and down and lots of congratulations and well wishes. It truly was a magical morning.

Only fitting that UMM and I met running that he propose at a race! It might be a bit quick, but I have kissed a lot of toads to finally have found my prince! What is time anyway? I am happy, happy, happy, and that is all that really matters.
Once upon a time, I was a single girl thinking all hope was lost. Now, I am an engaged girl who has truly found her running match and I couldn’t be happier! Ain’t love and running grand!

  9. I'm so happy for you two! I love that he made sure you fixed your hat first, and then he had someone take a photo. Such a cute, perfectly appropriate way to propose. I was just telling my mom about the proposal and showed her the pictures, and she said you two are adorable. :-)
