Trail Running & Beer New Year Adventures

Happy New Year! Okay, I am few days behind on New Year wishes, but I do hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season!
I know I did. However, let it be known that I am thankful that these holiday times come but once year. It is now time to refresh and focus! Goodbye 2013. Hello ‘14. It is going to be a great year, I already know.

My weekly mileage these last couple of weeks has been lacking, but I did manage to get out on the trails for some fun group runs! UMM’s birthday was on the 28th of December. He went out and ran a 50k for fun! I, and some other friends joined him for his last 11 miles at the Foresthill Divide Loop trail. The day was gorgeous and after the run, we headed to Knee Deep Brewing Company for some delicious beers! I really liked Knee Deep. I like a good IPA and Knee Deep is the hoppiest place around. Bonus, they are dog friendly!

There he is and the pup too!

Great beer w/ even better company!

For UMM’s birthday I bought him the book ‘Feed Zone Portables’ by Biju Thomas & Allen Lim. I have to say that I am really digging this book. It is all about eating real food on long training runs versus packaged crap and GU’s. It gives plenty of recipe options and ideas! We already tried one of the rice cake recipes that was not too shabby if I do say so. I highly recommend this book if you are like me and cannot possibly stomach swallowing another gel substance. Be warned though, these recipes are high in calories. If you are sitting on your arse far more than you are running, you probably want to stay away. Pretty insightful though. I dig it!

On Saturday January 4th, some of the SFM ambassadors got together for some trail running and beer time. UMM and I drove out to SF for the day where we ran bits of the Miwok course in the Marin Headlands. While I had been in the Headlands area many times before waiting at the aid stations, I never actually ran the trails. I know, crazy right? It was a real treat to not only experience the breath taking bay views, but run with good friends old and new. Shoutout to Chris for organizing such a fun day!

So while my weekly mileage did seem to lack this holiday season, I was able to get in two longish trail runs in both 11 miles starting at 11. I am so happy to have amazing people to run with in such gorgeous areas! Cheers to many more running (& beer) adventures in 2014!
