The Return of RuninSyn

Everyday we follow a system of patterns. Everyday is the same, but different. Change is inevitable.

Back to blog after a bit of a long hiatus. Too many reasons to explain as life happens, but here are some updates listed (long winded explanations aren’t necessary as I wouldn’t want to bore you away):

After six plus years, I lost my domain address for the blog. Runinsyn dot com is now some stupid sliding door crap. The new addy for now will remain runinsyn.blogspot.com. Super lame, but my fault...Sort of.

Moved to Granite Bay fairly recently. I am actually really enjoying the relocation even if it is only 45 minutes away from Placerville.

In 2017, I had the amazing opportunity to explore 25 lakes. I love lakes and I will be writing on all those lake adventures coming soon.

For the last couple of years, I ran with no plan. Just for the love of running. Lately, I have kicked the running back up a notch and happy with the results I am seeing. I might not ever be where I once was, but
“It’s a new dawn
A new day
A new life
For Me
And I’m feeling good.”
*Bonus points if you can name that tune! Minus points if you have to google.

I am constantly surrounded by amazing running friends and because so, have been experiencing some low self esteem issues. It’s not them, it’s me. I’m too slow, or too fat, or too something. While I work on myself physically, I am also digging deep to get out of this mindset I seem to be lost in. I am healthy and I am happy, and that is what I should be focused on.

Easier said than done, but I will say that I had my confidence boosted when I recently ran the Sactown 10 Miler. Insert mini race report here:

I had no idea what to expect from my performance. The night before I ate super spicy Thai Food and well, needless to say, I was a hurting unit come race morning. It was not pretty. After many bathroom stops, I met up with friend and fellow Oiselle teammate, Verna. We toed to the start where she stood at the nine minute pace marker and I at the twelve.

In past road races, I tend to always start out too fast in the beginning and then end up blistering and burning towards the end with my pace being all over the place. This race was different. In fact this race was a game changer for me.

The race started and with less than a half mile, I caught up to Verna who was on a very specific goal pace as she is training for the Eugene Mary. To my surprise, I kept up with her for a few miles. I felt good. I felt strong. And, I DID NOT feel the Thai food madness, thankfully. At mile four I hung back because I wanted to run my race, not Verna’s, but caught back up with her at mile five. The second half of this race hurt, but I kept going. As I crossed the finish line, I was happy. My average pace was 9.24 with mile five and ten being a sub nine. To my surprise, I managed to keep my splits fairly even which never happens. I was thrilled at my performance to say the least.

I’m not the runner I once was. It’s different. I’m different. Things change, yet remain the same. And that my friends is the beauty of blogging as we follow each other’s journey’s through this thing called life.

Praise and Shout Out’s go out to some amazing running friends this week:
